Shady Dell Music was off for a while since the oldest living Dell rat, sweet looking Margaret, passed away at 105. She lived a long and good life and was much loved. I would head on over to read about the tribute to this lady on Shady's blog. I was touched by the outpouring of love for Margaret and how much she will be missed. It doesn't matter the age, we still are greatly saddened when someone we love passes away. I created this card for Kathleen  and Tom (Mr. Shady) and for the loved ones left behind. If you, Kathleen or Tom, would like the card, let me know by emailing your address to me and I will send it to you.  I hope you like this card:)

  1. The first really catches the eye. Lots of details to look at. The stamp in the second gives it a great feel. Awesome work indeed.

  3. Hi, Birgit!

This is a wonderful surprise, dear friend, and so very nice of you! The card is marvelous and carries a message worth remembering.

Although I have returned to blogging I still feel a deep, aching sadness over the loss of that wonderful lady and my dear friend, Margaret Schneider. Born into an Age of Innocence the likes of which this world will never see again, Margaret, in early childhood, survived a life threatening illness and went on to live to the ripe old age of 105. What an inspiration Margaret was, and what a wonderful friend you are, Birgit, for creating beautiful this card in her memory. I will immediately email Kathleen and link to this post. Pink was Margaret's favorite color and I am sure Kathleen would love to have your card as a keepsake. Your generosity in giving this card comes at the right moment because Margaret passed away one month ago today right around this time on the clock. Thank you very much for your kindness, dear friend BB! This is what genuine caring friendship is all about. :)

    1. I might also add that the theme you chose is ideally suited to Margaret, because one of her simple pleasures in life was mowing her lawn. She looked forward to it, kept doing it until she was almost 100 and found it therapeutic. Margaret literally mowed her worries away. I recently joked to Kathleen via email that the first thing Margaret did after passing through the Pearly Gates was to volunteer to mow the lawn. :) Margaret had a great sense of humor and I believe she would approve of my quip.

Thank you again, dear BB, for being such a wonderful friend!

    2. I am so deeply humbled that you appreciate the card and that you think Katherine will like it. It's funny, I kept looking at that saying and putting it aside only to pick it up again. I had an image of Margaret loving the grass between her feet so I ended up using the stamp

  4. It's always touching to see others respond to the loss of a loved one, especially when they never met that person. To me, that shows a true human connectedness. Lovely card again.

  13. Birgit- I just received this email message for you from Kathleen. She and I both attempted to leave the comment using her name but were unable to do so. Therefore, I am using my account to publish it for you. Here is Kathleen's comment on your post:

    Dear Birgit,

I am very touched by your card and appreciate it very much, not only because it is beautifully designed, but because it carries so much meaning and comfort in it.

As Tom mentioned, Mother's favorite color was pink, and I know for a fact that she believed in everyday angels. Also, her favorite flowers were pink roses, like the ones on your design. (Tom even sent a big bouquet of them to me when Mother passed away. What wonderful friends blogging brings to us!)

So I know what she would say when I would have shown it to her. Since sadly she isn't here, I'll say it for her: "Now isn't that really pretty? It's got my favorite flowers and colors too!" And this, which invariably followed after looking at a message to her on my iPad: "Tell me again Kathy, how does she know about me if she never met me?"

I especially like the pearls at the top. They remind me of the ones Mother used to wear whenever she "dressed up" and are still in her jewelry box on her dresser. (Confession: when I was a little girl, I used to try them on when she wasn't looking. I wanted to be like her in every way. Still do!!)

I have a quote in my collection that adds to the one you've used on your card. It is from the Talmud and reads:

"Every blade of grass has an angel that bends over it and whispers, "Grow! Grow!"

This is what all of us who loved Mother need to do now. We will "grow" the seeds of love she planted in her long life - with that angel's help and that of other angels like yourself, who appear to help us heal as we move forward into the future without her physical presence. Her spirit lives on certainly, as we know that nothing in the universe is ever destroyed. It merely changes form.

Thank you again for your kindness and compassion, and for taking the time to create such a healing gift. My heart is sore, but so grateful for your thoughtfulness!

    2. I am so glad you like the card because I tried to think of what she might like just from what I read on Shady's blog and from the pictures posted of her. I'm surprised by the saying and that I have it and used it. I said, above, I was wondering if I should use that saying but something kept making me come back to it and I felt, finally thatit fit. I'm glad I used roses and the pearls which were her favourite...I'm so glad and I will email you as soon as possible
